Although it cannot be defined as a true “alliance”, China and Russia are expanding their strategic partnership through a collaboration agreement in terms of space activity.

The news was confirmed by president of Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, Yuri Borisovin an interview with Rossiya-24 TV, cited by the Tass and Interfax agencies, according to reports from the Ansa agency.

“An agreement to work together in this field was recently signed,” confirmed Borisov.

“After carrying out a detailed analysis of the moon landing area by automatic probes, which will sample the soil and look for the presence of water, we will move on to the next phase: in all probability in contact with our Chinese partners, this will include the construction of a future lunar base“, added the head of Roscosmos.

Medvedev meets the Chinese leader

Meanwhile, during his visit to China, the number two of the Russian Security Council Dmitri Medvedev “transmitted” to Xi Jinping a message from Vladimir Putin “which, in particular, notes the unprecedented level of Russian-Chinese political dialogue and practical cooperation.”

China, for its part, said it was “willing to work with Russia to continuously advance bilateral relations and promote global governance in a more just and reasonable direction”. President Xi Jinping told former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, according to the state-run CCTV network, that the development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership is “a long-term strategic choice”.

Furthermore, China hopes that all parties involved in the conflict in Ukraine “exercise restraint, conduct a comprehensive dialogue and resolve common security concerns through political means”.
